The LOR-200 from Luciol Instruments SA, Mies, Switzerland, is a portable, high-resolution optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) that localizes events with 1 cm precision, distinguishes between two events with 20 cm separation, and has a sub-m attenuation deadzone. Features include a very high contrast that allows it to see both high reflections and Rayleigh back scattering on a single trace. The device can characterize optical fiber patch cords and assemblies with both loss and high reflections at multiple connectors. Applications include avionic optical fiber assemblies, patch cord characterization, integrity testing of optical fiber sensors, and specialty fiber verification during the various stages of production.
