GRTgaz Taps Telvent to Control Gas Transmission System

ROCKVILLE, MD (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Telvent (Nasdaq:TLVT), the leading real-time IT solutions and information provider for a sustainable world, announced that it will deliver its advanced supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) technology to new customer GRTgaz. GRTgaz owns and operates the GDF Suez gas transportation network in France. The contract for the project is secured until 2013.

Telvent's OASyS Dynamic Network of Applications (DNA) is a highly distributed real-time platform that seamlessly integrates all of a company's tools under a single umbrella of centralized, standardized hardware and software. Its open architecture, combined with a uniform, intuitive interface, will provide GRTgaz with vital, real-time information for greater security, reliability, innovation, flexibility and responsiveness.

With increasing gas consumption in Europe, secure infrastructures like those provided by OASyS DNA are significant to ensure a reliable gas supply to millions of people. This is critical as GRTgaz's gas transportation network is Europe's largest—spanning 32,000 km in France alone and transporting nearly 68 billion cubic meters of gas annually. The network is also comprised of 25 compressor stations, eight interconnections with other enterprises' networks, and 4,600 delivery points—including 900 industrial customers.

OASyS DNA is in alignment within Europe's developing internal natural gas market. Since free competition requires access to gas infrastructures, operators play a crucial role in building the market by reinforcing and diversifying supply sources. The selection of OASyS DNA is part of GRTgaz's pursuit in the development of this network, and its goal to harmonize with the rules and practices that facilitate the interconnection of European networks.

"GRTgaz wanted a new IT infrastructure, including different systems with a best-of-breed approach," said Ignacio Gonzalez, Telvent's chairman and CEO. "OASyS DNA, thanks to its proven ability to successfully cope with big networks, its modular approach, its range of gas-focused applications, and its ability to integrate with large cutting-edge IT platforms and third-party applications, makes it the choice of GRTgaz. It will ensure that the organization has easy to evolve and maintain platforms."

GRTgaz is the second major European gas win for Telvent in recent months. In June, the company announced its successful bid to provide German-based Bunde Etzel Pipeline with a complete IT infrastructure.

These recent wins, along with many large-scale active projects in countries like Greece, Italy, and Turkey, have earned Telvent a leading position in the Mediterranean-European gas industry.
