GE Sensing Launches Intrinsically Safe Ultrasonic Flowmeter

BILLERICA, MA - An ultrasonic flowmeter that is intrinsically safe and can save time and money by avoiding downtime, the DigitalFlow ISX878 from GE Sensing brings all the advantages of clamp-on flow metering to areas requiring explosion-proof design. It is accurate, easy to install, causes no pressure drop, provides drift-free performance, and requires virtually no maintenance.

"Many of our customers prefer loop-powered flowmeters because of their low initial cost and ease of installation," says Christopher Frail, product line manager at GE Sensing. "With the intrinsically safe ISX878, we can now provide these important attributes for use in hazardous environments, keeping all of the benefits of a full-functioned ultrasonic flowmeter. We at GE Sensing are very excited about this product as it is the first fully intrinsically safe clamp-on meter commercially available."

The ISX878 features a low-powered design that requires a mere 60 mW of power. The device is able to achieve its low power consumption through new ultrasonic transducer technology that requires much less excitation energy than conventional transducers, while still providing exceptional, high-performing ultrasonic signals. Its low-profile, NEMA4X package features a 128 by 64 pixel LCD display for easy local viewing of flow rate information and a six-button external keypad for accessing the instrument program as well as for verifying meter diagnostics. ISX878 transducers are available to cover pipe size ranges from one-half inch up to 16 inches in diameter.
