Free Chlorine Sensor Requires No Reagents

Designed with polarographic technology, the FC80 free chlorine sensor from Electro-Chemical Devices eliminates the need for expensive reagents while providing accurate free chlorine measurement performance for applications in municipal drinking water and various industrial water treatment processes.


The sensor monitors free chlorine in municipal drinking water from 0.05 to 20 ppm chlorine as the standard range or 0.01 to 5.00 ppm with the low range sensor. It is compliant with EPA Method 334.0 for measuring drinking water.  It also supports a wide variety of industrial process and plant applications including rinse water, cooling water or other fresh water sampling tasks.

The FC80 includes digital communication capabilities and features amperometric sensing based on polarographic technology relying on gold/silver materials and a PTFE membrane. It operates over a wide temperature range from 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F). Response time is T90 in two minutes. The only maintenance required is the replacement of its economical electrolyte solution at intervals of up to 12 months.


The FC80 Free Chlorine Sensor can be specified with an optional auto clean option that includes a solenoid actuated spray cleaner using either 30 psi process water or air. An easily adjusted timer controls the period and duration of the cleaning cycle.


It is also available as part of a complete system, the FC80-T80 Analyzer.  This free chlorine analyzer features a plug and play design that incorporates a constant head flow control device, a pH sensor, the FC80 free chlorine sensor and the T80 analyzer/transmitter all conveniently mounted on a PVC panel. Technicians simply connect the sample and drain lines, connect the power and outputs and it is ready to use.
