SF Series intelligent 8-port Fast Ethernet switches from MEN Micro Inc., Ambler, PA, provide RJ45, M12, and D-sub front connections and have a rugged design for use in harsh environments. The switches consume <7 W/switch, are packaged in a fanless housing; support full-duplex and half-duplex operation, high-speed nonblocking, store-and-forward switching, autonegotation, and Layer 2 switching; and are fault-tolerant. SF2 and SF3 (managed) and SF1 and SF4 (unmanaged) switches are offered in stand-alone and 19 in. rack-mountable configurations. Managed switches support PoE and can act as Power Source Equipment or a Powered Device and include an FPGA-based low-power CPU that integrates the management software.
