EnOcean Announces Partnership with Energy Star Program

BOSTON /BUSINESS WIRE/ -- EnOcean announced a fundamental commitment to protect the environment by becoming an Energy Star partner. EnOcean, through its voluntary partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star Program, is helping to sustain green initiatives by fitting energy-inefficient buildings with self-powered wireless controls. EnOcean's energy harvesting and wireless technologies simplify the installation of the energy-stingy wireless controls (sensors, switches, gateways, and actuators) by replacing wires and batteries with self-powered wireless links.

"The Energy Star partnership clearly communicates to architects, contractors, and building owners that EnOcean is committed to protecting the environment and strengthening the economy. We are fortunate to be able to offer solutions that enable energy management systems, which consequently increase profits," said Jim O'Callaghan, President of EnOcean operations in North America. "The EnOcean technology, which is green at its core, provides integrators energy-saving controls that are uncommonly easy to integrate."

In partnership with Energy Star, EnOcean will:

  • Measure and track the energy performance of its facilities where possible by using tools such as those offered through Energy Star

  • Help spread the word about the importance of energy efficiency to its staff and community

  • Support the Energy Star Challenge, a national call to action to help improve the energy efficiency of America's commercial and industrial buildings by 10% or more

  • Highlight its achievements with recognition offered through Energy Star

"Environmental responsibility is everyone's responsibility, and today I'm pleased EnOcean is taking this motto to heart," said EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson. "By making smart energy choices, EnOcean is helping improve our nation's energy and environmental outlook."

About EnOcean
No batteries. No Wires. EnOcean, the "inventor of self-powered wireless sensor and switch modules," manufactures radio modules and energy harvesters that enable building automation systems. The battery-free modules (powered using ambient sources of solar, thermal, and mechanical energy) simplify sustainable green building development by replacing system wires with self-powered wireless links. The company is a spin-off of Siemens AG, one of the premier German technology centers. U.S. operations are based in Boston, MA. About Energy Star
Energy Star was introduced by EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. Today, the Energy Star label can be found on more than 50 different kinds of products, new homes, and commercial and industrial buildings. Products and buildings that have earned the Energy Star designation prevent greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy-efficiency specifications set by the government. In 2007, Americans, with the help of Energy Star, saved about $16 billion on their energy bills while reducing the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of 27 million vehicles.
