EnOcean Alliance demonstrates integrated intelligent control

San Ramon, CA & New York City, NY -- At LIGHTFAIR 2015 (Javits Center, New York City, May 5–7), the EnOcean Alliance will demonstrate at booth the ideal synergy of intelligent lighting and building controls enabled by the EnOcean energy harvesting wireless standard. The organization shows how EnOcean-based solutions from different vendors seamlessly integrate wireless LED lighting and HVAC control into a building automation system. This approach of open, standard-based networking achieves maximum energy savings and comfort rates. It combines this with low maintenance effort and high flexibility of batteryless, wireless devices.

A large number of lighting industry leaders, such as WattStopper, Thomas Research Products, Schneider Electric, Osram Sylvania, Leviton, Inventronics and Hubbell Lighting, have adopted the EnOcean standard, making it the leading standard for wireless lighting control.

Sophisticated Wireless Lighting Control

Wireless technologies clearly have an advantage for intelligent lighting controls, as they are more flexible and cheaper to install than wired systems. The installation can also be expanded at any time. The booth shows a complete wireless lighting control system comprising of components from Inventronics, batteryless wall switches combined with a wall switch receiver from Leviton, a solar-powered, passive infrared vacancy/occupancy sensor from Echoflex, an Echoflex duplex outlet controller to control plug-in electrical loads and a line voltage dimmer as well as a light level sensor, occupancy sensor and a 0-10V lighting relay from ILLUMRA. The lighting system can wirelessly communicate via EnOcean radio with all components to realize daylight harvesting scenarios, presence dependent control, and dimming.

Integrated Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC)

The lighting control is synchronized with comprehensive wireless energy management for energy-efficient and comfortable heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). The system covers self-powered wireless temperature sensors from Thermokon, a temperature/humidity sensor, a window contact, a particulate matter sensor and an indoor air quality sensor from NanoSense that measures CO2, VOC (volatile organic compounds), temperature and humidity. A temperature actuator and a self-powered heating valve actuator as well as a solar-powered CO2 ambient sensor from Pressac Communications and its self-powered Current Transducer (CT) Clamp, which wirelessly measures power consumption, complement the system.

Seamless Networking to BAS and IP

Gateways, which connect energy harvesting wireless devices to building automation systems or the Internet, complement the system for intelligent data processing. At the booth, the solutions include the CNS-EnOcean driver from Control Network Solutions, which integrates web technology platforms built on Niagara AX and energy harvesting wireless networks. The unifi platform from Nimbus9 combines intelligent networking to the cloud with user-friendly visualization.
