Powercast Corp.

The Lifetime Power wireless sensor system from Powercast Corp., Pittsburgh, PA, uses radio waves to perpetually power sensor networks for building and industrial automation. The system consists of batteryless sensor nodes embedded with the company's Powerharvester receivers, a WSG-101 Building Automation System gateway, and the TX91501 Powercaster transmitter. Powerharvester receivers embedded in the sensor nodes receive RF energy up to 60–80 ft. away from the Powercaster transmitters broadcasting 915 MHz radio waves. The receivers convert the RF energy into DC current. The gateway can scale up to 100 sensor nodes and 800 sensor points for large-scale deployment and interfaces to wired building automation systems via BACnet, Modbus, Metasys, and LonWorks. Sensors and gateway communicate wirelessly at 2.4 GHz using 802.15.4 radios.
