Emerson Awarded $95 Million Contract

PITTSBURGH, PA -- (BUSINESS WIRE)--The largest electricity company in Poland has awarded a $95 million automation contract to Emerson Process Management, an Emerson (NYSE: EMR) business. Polska Grupa Energetyczna selected Emerson to provide technology and services to modernize six generating units at its Belchatow Power station, which is the largest thermal power plant in Europe.

The contract is part of a major reconstruction and modernization program to help Polska Grupa Energetyczna meet the growing demands of the Polish power market by improving the Belchatow plant's lifespan, efficiency, availability, and environmental performance. Emerson has participated in earlier phases of the program under contracts awarded in 2007 and 2009.

Under the new contract, Emerson will serve as both main automation contractor and main electrical contractor, responsible for project management, procurement, engineering, design, installation, and start-up of the updated instrumentation, control, and electrical subsystems.

Emerson technologies provided under the contract include PlantWeb digital plant architecture with the Ovation expert control system, Rosemount measurement and analytical instruments, Smart Wireless networks, Scenario simulation technology for operator training, and AMS Suite predictive maintenance software.

"We appreciate the opportunity to have earned Polska Grupa Energetyczna's confidence on the previous two contracts, and we look forward to helping improve the performance of these additional units as well," said Steve Sonnenberg, president, Emerson Process Management. "Our goal—as always—will be to provide innovative technology and industry expertise to help maximize the return on their automation investment."
