The SCATEC-2 long-range photoelectric sensor from Baumer Ltd., Southington, CT, is designed for noncontact counting of overlapped paper sheets, newspapers, and other flat objects conveyed in a lap or shingle stream. Sensing range is 0–120 mm with an object speed of 0–2 m/s for edges >0.3 mm and 0–1 m/s for edges >0.2 mm. The counter can detect sheets down to 0.2 mm thick at up to 600,000 pieces/hr. regardless of color or finish. Sensor is adjustable using a DIP switch or via ScaDiag SCATEC diagnostic software and can detect with either the folder or cut edge leading. A visible red laser aids alignment.
