(Duos), a leader in critical-infrastructure protection and intelligent video solutions for the railroad industry, announced that CONRAIL, a major east coast railroad terminal and switching agent jointly owned by CSX and Norfolk Southern, has selected the company as their security surveillance and video analytics solution provider for a major mission critical rail yard operated by CONRAIL in New Jersey.
Under an agreement that followed a competitive process, Duos is providing a turnkey system designed to enhance physical security, as well as improve day-to-day operations, by using state-of-the-art surveillance cameras in combination with PRAESIDIUM, the company's proprietary rule-based intelligent video and multi-source platform, to automatically monitor critical areas of the yard. In addition to the security aspect of the project, the system also uses the live video streams to provide essential operational support, such as automatic and intelligent monitoring of placement, actual locations, and movement of rail cars. Through the use of video analytics, the system will automatically detect and send an alert when a rail car is positioned improperly on the track. Upon alert, the yardmaster will be able to assess the situation and respond accordingly, thus preventing potential accidents or costly disruptions to operations.

In addition to improving operations, the system will provide 24/7 security surveillance and digital recording of critical areas when and if suspicious events take place. The PRAESIDIUM multi-source management platform includes an open architecture, browser-based interface that allows an unlimited number of users to view and control the cameras and sensors in real-time. Operators can also retrieve and play archived video using the same Internet Explorer browser window. PRAESIDIUM also includes a powerful search engine that can be queried visually or by time input and uses a Microsoft SQL database platform.
