Compact MCU Cuts Power And Footprint

STMicroelectronics’ STM8L001 ultra-low-power microcontroller (MCU) targets cost-conscious applications by combining the company’s efficient 8-bit STM8 core with essential peripherals in a compact, low-pin-count SO-8 outline. The MCU provides features for basic sensing, communication, and control, including two comparators, SPI, I2C, and UART interfaces, and one 8- and two 16-bit timers. It also packs 8 KB of Flash memory and 1.5bKB of RAM, and up to 2 KB of the Flash memory can be assigned to act as data EEPROM. A flexible internal clock system is adjustable from 32 kHz to 16 MHz.


Up to six user I/Os allow engineers to take full advantage of the STM8L001’s optimized specification. ST’s ultra-low-power technologies cut current to as little as 300 nA in halt mode. The device operates from 1.8V to 3.6V, and in temperatures from -40°C to +125°C. The STM8L001J3 is in production now in the SO-8 package, priced from $0.21 each/10,000 pieces.
