Cisco Integrates Augusta Systems Technologies

MORGANTOWN, WV, -- Augusta Systems Inc., provider of intelligent enterprise network technologies, announced it has partnered with Cisco on the newly launched Cisco Open Platform for Safety and Security, which is designed to enable government agencies to protect assets, employees and citizens via a secure, intelligent, converged network. Augusta Systems technologies will support the integration and management of data from sensors and other edge-of-network assets into the Cisco platform, as well as provide a policy engine to support correlation of data from sensors and other devices and enable automated system functions.

"We are pleased to be working with Augusta Systems as part of our go-to-market team for the Cisco Open Platform for Safety and Security," said Bruce Klein, Cisco's federal vice president. "Our strategy is to pull together an 'ecosystem' of the leading companies with expertise in protecting citizens, employees and critical assets to provide the most comprehensive solution for facilitating collaboration for government agencies. Augusta Systems delivers a critical piece of our overall technology platform."

Efficient communications supported by interoperable technologies are critical for the situational awareness and effectiveness of incident response for defense, civilian, public safety, state and local government agencies. Often, legacy installations have a number of stand-alone, non-interoperable systems which result in increased personnel costs and longer decision and response times due to multiple hand-offs between various teams. Cisco Open Platform for Safety and Security, including Augusta Systems' technologies, overcomes these challenges through a scalable, tested network design that can increase the quality and effectiveness of response in almost any situation.

Cisco Open Platform for Safety and Security incorporates a variety of Cisco technologies, including Cisco Unified Communications, Cisco Video Surveillance Manager (VSM), Cisco's IP Interoperability and Collaboration System (IPICS) with land mobile radio integration, as well as solutions for digital media services, mobility and notification, all enabled over Cisco's converged infrastructure. By leveraging technologies from Augusta Systems, Cisco Open Platform for Safety and Security also supports the integration and management of data from sensors and other edge devices and systems, such as environmental threat detection sensors and fire alarm systems. In addition, Augusta Systems' technologies enable the Cisco platform to feature configurable event and policy-based actions that support real-time notifications and automated system responses.

Augusta Systems' technologies—including EdgeFrontier middleware, SensorPort network appliances, and SensorBridge software development components—provide platforms for the intelligent convergence of data from the multitude of diverse edge assets that exist at the edge of enterprise networks, including sensors, actuators, wireless sensor networks, RFID systems, imagery devices and other edge devices and systems. These Augusta Systems products support the building and management of converged enterprise solutions for security, monitoring, asset tracking and other applications.

"A technology platform that features unified communications, notification capabilities, sensor and system data convergence and configurable event and policy-based actions, enables a more complete common operating picture. This is critical to improving decision making and emergency response times," said Patrick Esposito, president and chief operating officer of Augusta Systems. "Cisco Open Platform for Safety and Security, coupled with technologies from Augusta Systems, can increase public safety and security, while also providing a more efficient and cost-effective means of converging and communicating critical information across government agencies."
