Chlorine Analyzer Seeks Food Rinse, Wash, and Disinfection Applications

The plug-n-play FC80 High Range Free Chlorine Analyzer from Electro-Chemical Devices (ECD) simplifies water-based disinfection while installing easily and requiring less maintenance for lower total cost-of-ownership. The analyzer monitors free chlorine in produce disinfection supply water, cleaning and disinfection of water supply lines, and cleaning solution water samples from 0.05 – 200 ppm Chlorine (Cl2). The FC80 is ideal for the monitoring Cl2 levels in disinfection processes to help ensure the elimination of disease-causing pathogens including E. coli, Cyclospora, Salmonella and Hepatitis.

High concentration Cl2 disinfection is utilized in a variety of food processing operations and produce packing lines.  All of these Cl2 disinfection techniques, however, require the introduction of liquid or solid Cl2 into water tanks that are connected to washer or spray line systems.

According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), liquid chlorine and hypochlorites are generally used in the 50 to 200 ppm concentration range with a contact time of 1 to 2 minutes to sanitize produce surfaces and processing equipment. Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is the form of freely available chlorine that has the highest bactericidal activity against a broad range of microorganisms.

The plug-n-play FC80 High Range Free Chlorine Analyzer installs quickly right out of the box.  The FC80’s advanced panel mount design includes built-in flow control, which eliminates the need for complicated pressure regulators and rotometers.  Built-in automatic pH compensation also eliminates the need for expensive reagents to reduce maintenance and life-cycle costs.

The FC80 Analyzer is available with either 110-240 Vac or 24 Vdc.  Parameters can be graphically displayed with user defined line, bar or gauge style graphs. The standard configuration has two 4-20 mA outputs/MODBUS RTU, and three SPDT relays. User configurable as Hi/Lo alarms with expiration timers, periodic timers, or fault alarms.

The FC80 is available with an optional Auto-Clean feature that includes a solenoid actuated spray cleaner using either 30 psi process water or air. An easily adjusted timer controls the period and duration of the cleaning cycle. For more details, visit http://www.ecdi.com
