Cargo Monitoring Intelligence Service Gets Smarter

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA /PRNewswire/ -- Following rigorous operational tests with customers worldwide, Savi Networks now is poised to field high volumes of the 10th wireless cargo tracking device leveraged by SaviTrak, the company's supply chain execution intelligence service built on an open technology platform.

SaviTrak now can provide real-time intelligence on the global location, security and condition of inventory transported by container shipments through its integration with an innovative tag device that includes GPS, cellular, and active Radio Frequency Identification with sensor technologies. This is the tenth electronic cargo monitoring device from a variety of third-party manufacturers that has been certified by Savi Networks to integrate into its global SaviTrak intelligence service.

"Through this new device and GSM (cellular) roaming agreements in over 150 countries, Savi Networks has reached a milestone where we can provide global visibility and mobile connectivity to our customers' in-transit inventory where it matters," said Neil Furukawa, senior vice president of Engineering and Operations, Savi Networks.

"SaviTrak is a breakthrough, turn-key service that's easy to implement and use, low cost and provides quick, tangible financial returns for managing supply chain execution in a global economy," said Nick Cova, vice president of Savi Networks' Commercial Operations and SaviTrak. "We invite companies to try it out and begin realizing the financial benefits from SaviTrak right away."

The multi-wireless device, which clamps onto a container door, receives GPS location information at configurable time intervals. Sensors embedded in the tag detect and record security breaches of the container doors as well as changes inside the container of temperature, light and humidity. The device then communicates the information to either active RFID or GSM cellular networks using GPRS, which has the world's largest cellular coverage.

The new device has been tested for nearly one year in real-world operational environments involving global Customs authorities, major international shippers, terminal operators, and third-party logistics service providers of tagged shipments throughout Asia and between Asia, the United States, the Middle East and Europe. With evaluations now deemed a success, the new device now can be produced and deployed in high volumes.
