The WS42 Series from ASM Sensors Inc., Elmhurst, IL, is a cable-actuated position sensor that integrates an encoder in an ultra-compact housing with multiple mounting configurations. Measurement range is 1000 mm, resolution is 6 pulses/mm with either 5 or 24 V output types. There are digital and analog versions, with the analog version providing an absolute output with either 1 kilohm potentiometer, 10 V, or 4–20 mA outputs. Applications include linear positioning of patient tables for CT, MRI, and X-ray diagnostic equipment.
