BLDC Motor Drivers Integrate Current Sensing

BLDC Motor Drivers Integrate Current Sensing
Texas Instruments (TI) Inc.

The DRV8871 brushless dc (BLDC) motor driver family arrives self-crowned as the industry's first devices with integrated current sensing. As a result, users can avoid the power loss, heat generation, and cost associated with using external sense resistors. The drivers also integrate regulation to limit current to an external current-sense resistor and provide fault monitoring. Additionally, the devices offer a 6.5V to 45V motor-supply voltage to support industry-standard 12V and 24V supplies. The 8-pin DRV8871 family is available now in a 4.9 mm x 6 mm thermally enhanced small outline package (HSOP). Pricing starts at 1.40 for the DRV8871 and $1.28 for the DRV8870 and DRV8872 each/1,000.
