Avago Technologies Announces New Navigation Sensors

SAN JOSE, CA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Avago Technologies, a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications, announced two new system-on-chip (SOC) LaserStream and LED optical navigation sensors for use in USB corded computer mice and a variety of other input device applications. The ADNS-7700, which incorporates Avago's patented LaserStream navigation sensor, microcontroller and VCSEL illumination in a single chip, targets designers of desktop PCs, trackballs and integrated input devices. The ADNS-5700 is a single chip USB solution that integrates the optical navigation sensor with a microcontroller and LED driver to help simplify mouse designs.

The ADNS-7700 is one of the first laser navigation sensors in the industry that has a microcontroller, navigation sensor and VCSEL integrated in a single package. Housed in a 22-pin staggered dual inline package (DIP), this navigation sensor is designed to be used with either Avago's trim lens (ADNS-6180-001) or wide trim lens (ADNS-6180-002) to provide a complete navigation system. Additionally, this LaserStream-based navigation sensor operates on a single 5 V power supply, meets USB 2.0 compliance, and laser power is pre-calibrated prior shipment. Other key features include high-speed motion detection of up to 45 in./s (ips), acceleration of 20 g and resolution up to 2400 dpi; a mechanical Z-Wheel interface for vertical and tilt-wheel scroll; On-the-Fly resolution change; a keymap feature; and on-chip OTP memory for device configuration flexibility.

Avago's ADNS-5700, which also operates on a 5 V power supply, comes in an 18-pin optical package that is designed to be used with Avago's round lens (ADNS-5100), trim lens (ADNS-5100-001) or truncated round lens (ADNS-5100-002). With the addition of the ADNS-5200 clip and HLMP-ED80 LED, these parts provide a complete and compact optical navigation mouse sensor. Additionally, this navigation sensor has no moving parts, and precision optical alignment is not required, making the ADNS-5700 ideal for high volume assembly. Other key features include: high speed motion detection up to 30 ips; accurate navigation over a wide variety of surfaces; and 12-bit motion reporting.

A reference design kit, complete with sample navigation sensor and optical mouse is available for the ADNS-5700 and ADNS-7700. The optical mouse supplied with the kit will enable input device designers to evaluate the performance of the sensor prior to design. A design guide which provides usefully tips and information for ease of use is also included in the kit.

Pricing and Availability
Avago's ADNS-7700 and ADNS-5700 navigation sensors are priced at $1.55 and $0.75, respectively in 10,000 piece quantities. Samples and production quantities are available now through Avago's direct sales channel and worldwide distribution partners.
