The ADXRS800 from Analog Devices Inc., Norwood, MA, is a MEMS gyroscope designed for automotive electronic stability control, rollover detection, and pitch detection applications. The MEMS sensor uses a patented differential quad-beam architecture to minimize the influence of linear shock and vibration. Features include angular rate range of ±300°/s, resolution of 80 LSB/°/s on the low end, noise of 0.16°/s rms with an 80 Hz filter, sensitivity to linear acceleration is 0.3°/s/g, noise-rate density is 0.2°/s/√Hz at 105°C, null offset variation is 3°/s max. over temperature and product life, and vibration rectification is 0.0002°/s/g2. Power consumption is 6 mA typ. And temperature range is –40°C to 125°C. Angular rate data are presented as a 16-bit word as part of a 32-bit SPI message.
