Aeris, Wireless Monitoring Solutions Partner for M2M

SAN FRANCISCO, CA /PRNewswire/ -- CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment -- Aeris Communications, the leading wireless communications service provider dedicated exclusively to the machine-to-machine (M2M) and telematics marketplace across North America, and Wireless Monitoring Solutions, a Crane Co. (NYSE:CR) business that provides complete end-to-end wireless sensor networking solutions, announced that they are partnering to provide GSM/GPRS network access for M2M applications, including self- service machine and tank level monitoring solutions.

Crane Wireless Monitoring Solutions (WMS) will roll out its VantedgePoint remote monitoring system based on the IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee wireless networking standard, providing integration with LAN and Cellular WAN communications, which is provided by the Aeris GSM network. The VantedgePoint system is designed for two-way communications, supporting real-time data capture and analysis and provides the capability to remotely monitor various types of machines, sensors or processes. Crane WMS will also provide data aggregation, hosting and network management for remote monitoring network solutions.

"We selected Aeris as our network partner because Aeris is known as the M2M service provider leader," said Charlie Stuewe, vice president and general manager of Crane WMS. "We wanted to capitalize our application on Aeris's extensive industry expertise and their ability to provide quality team support services and a flexible pricing plan that is imperative for our business."

Supported by the Aeris GSM network, the remote monitoring solution from Crane WMS is an example of how M2M technology can significantly increase process efficiencies and profitability by communicating key machine data to a central location, thus optimizing operation and route management. By supporting telemetry services to self-service machines and tank farms, Aeris and Crane enable operators to lower operational costs through remote monitoring, increase productivity, improve customer service and provide new services like cashless transactions. The wireless processing of cashless card payments provides more convenience to self-service machine customers and opens up new revenue opportunities for self-service machine operators in a variety of markets.

"There are many ways in which machines and processes will benefit from M2M technology, including remote monitoring and diagnostics. In the next few years we are going to see more and more companies, especially in the self- service market, switching to a digital M2M communications system to enhance business and productivity," said Mareca Hatler, director of research for ON World Inc.

"Aeris is expanding its efficient, real-time monitoring capabilities across various markets by working with Crane WMS," said Mark Cratsenburg, senior vice president of sales for Aeris. "We are excited to expand Aeris's footprint and are eager to see the cost benefits that machine-to-machine communications will provide to the remote monitoring solutions that Crane is targeting."
