The iC-LNG from iC-Haus GmbH, Bodenheim, Germany, is a multichannel optoelectronic scanner for the capture of absolute position data for linear displacement measurement systems or rotary encoders. The chip takes 7 by 8 mm of board space and scans a 10-bit gray code while also evaluating an analog signal track, extending the position value to 16 bits. The sensor array requires a 5.4 mm code width to enable the use of smaller code discs and has a compact LED lighting unit; the chip controls the level of illumination and acts as a monitor. Other features include integrated offset and amplitude compensation; A/B/Z signals with 1064 to 16,384 pulses in selectable binary grades; position data output in parallel or in series; operating temperature range of –40°C to 110°C; and access to all functions up to a max. speed of 12,000 rpm.
