Jacob Lacourse began his career in electronics manufacturing and has amassed over twenty years of experience developing and manufacturing reliable, low power, low cost environmental data logging solutions. Jacob is the Director of Hardware Engineering at Onset Computer Corporation, a global leader in data logging and monitoring solutions.
Jacob’s background in product development and sensor integration came in handy when his second child was born with a rare genetic disorder known as Usher Syndrome which is the leading cause of deaf-blindness. He saw the potential that sensors could play in adapting the world to his daughters needs and so he began developing solutions that solve everyday challenges for her and others like her with extra needs. Jacob most recently won the Not Impossible Limitless award at CES earlier this year for his work in developing a low cost braille toy for his daughter Rebecca, appropriately named the BecDot. He is currently working to bring the device to market so that blind and visually impaired children have early access to braille. His foundation Adapt The World Labs aims to develop low cost solutions for people with extra needs.
